{"id":562,"date":"2022-10-07T12:28:02","date_gmt":"2022-10-07T12:28:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/floridarecycled.com\/new\/?page_id=562"},"modified":"2022-11-22T20:44:17","modified_gmt":"2022-11-22T20:44:17","slug":"furniture-exchange-and-revamp","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/floridarecycled.com\/new\/furniture-exchange-and-revamp\/","title":{"rendered":"Furniture Exchange and Revamp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A<strong> Project of\u00a0<em>Florida<\/em> <em>\u00a0ReCycleD<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>\u00a0\u201cFURNITURE EXCHANGE AND REVAMP\u201d <\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Shuman Juvenile Detention Center Community Service Project<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<strong><em>Allegheny County Shuman Juvenile Detention Center<\/em><\/strong><strong>\u00a0has partnered with\u00a0<em>Habitat for Humanity \/ Restore;<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0<em>The National Council of Jewish Women \u00a0\/ Thriftique; \u00a0St. Vincent de Paul Society \u00a0\/ Sharpsburg and Construction Junction<\/em>\u00a0to advocate the importance of art in our lives and communities in a first of its kind \u201cFurniture Exchange and Revamp Community Service Project\u201d. \u00a0Designed and operated by Gerry Florida of Florida Recycled, Ms. Florida works with the support of A<em>llegheny County Shuman Juvenile Detention Center, The Juvenile Detention Association of Pennsylvania, The National Partnership on Juvenile<\/em>\u00a0<em>Services<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>The County Commissioners of PA\u00a0<\/em>along with a growing list of generous donations of furniture and\u00a0supplies from individuals, profit and nonprofit organizations.<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Distressed furniture is delivered to Shuman Center where it is artfully refurbished and returned to the donor organization for sale in their resale shops. Individual donations are gifted to a donor organization of choice. \u00a0Habitat for Humanity is one of the first organizations to come on board with the project donating the first four pieces of furniture for restoration. \u00a0Shuman Center residents prepped the donated pieces through the process of sanding, priming, painting and hand decorating each item. \u00a0A light coat sealant was used to preserve the furniture before it\u2019s return to Habitat for Humanity where it was displayed in their Grand Opening in their Swissvale resale shop. \u00a0The original total resale value of the four pieces donated was twenty two dollars (22) &#8230;the four pieces sold within the first hours of the Grand Opening to one lucky buyer for a total of two hundred and sixty dollars (260<\/strong><strong>)!\u00a0<\/strong><strong>In the first eight weeks of operation over twenty pieces of furniture have been donated with the completion of twelve artfully revamped pieces. One Hundred( 100) percent of proceeds benefits the donating organization&#8217;s community service projects!<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<strong>The\u00a0Furniture Exchange and Revamp Project\u00a0exemplifies the therapeutic and rehabilitative power of art. \u00a0Schools and communities painfully withstand budget cuts that jeopardize art sustainability as government, profit and nonprofit support slowly erodes. We believe that we all can be make a difference and make our voices heard to positively influence funding cuts that negatively affect our lives, education systems and culture. \u00a0Aside from the obvious music, theater and visual arts are many unsung benefits to the ways we all routinely use art in our daily lives underestimating the limitless careers where training in creative ability, problem solving and idea generation\u00a0become the springboards for a host of possibilities.
